I was hunting mule deer in
Wyoming and came across a beautiful buck with a massive set of antlers. I lifted my 30-06
and fired and down he went.
I walked up
to the buck and was overwhelmed by all his antlers. I took off my daypack and set it on
the ground with my gun on top. Then I did something that I knew better than to do. I
walked up in front of him and he jumped up straight at me. I grabbed both antlers as he
ran right over the top of me.
As I lay on the ground, I
was thinking, "He's going to turn on me and start racking me with his antlers!"
I picked
myself up, discovering that I had two cuts and two punctures on my right arm and shoulder.
I thought I was very lucky that they weren't very deep and that they were the only
injuries I received. I had to find my glasses in the tall grass.
When I found
them, they were too bent up to put back on. The buck only ran about 30 yards before he
fell down again. I didn't waste any time finishing him off for good this time.
