I think I am more
excited about this issue than the first one
because I don't think I stopped to enjoy the first one like I should have. I am pumped
about the great articles we have in our second issue and know you will enjoy them. My
favorite is our cover story on shed hunting. We have everything you need to know about
shed hunting including the stories behind some of the most amazing sheds ever found. For
those of you who are looking for the biggest kills of 2001, you'll find these in our
"Best of 2001". We have already made some great new changes and improvements in
just our second issue. We have a new predator section, video vault section, to keep you up
to date on the best hunting videos, and our sound off section. Many people had a lot to
say about our first issue, most of it very positive. So if you have something to
say, let's hear it, because we will print it- good or bad. The cover of our first issue, being one of our re-creations of
a huge mule deer, brought in more phone calls and emails than ever before. I loved it;
especially the one guy who was pretty upset by our "fake" pictures. Let me do
some quick explaining for those of you who don't know what I am talking about. The last
seven years we produced our King's Calendars full of world record class images of bucks
and bulls. How do we do it? It is what we like to call "Re-creation". We take a
photo of a harvested animal, whether it is a kill shot or from a mounted head, and take
the huge antlers from that animal and re-create those antlers back on a live body deer or
elk photo. The finished product gives a photo quality image of that deer or elk just as it
would have looked if someone were lucky enough to get an actual photo. I have heard it
all... those things are fake, you guys make these things up, there is no way a mule deer
can be 48" wide ...Yeah, yeah tell me something I haven't heard. The bottom line is,
if you love looking at pictures of some of the biggest deer and elk to have ever roamed
the earth, you will and have been enjoying our images. Our last issue featured the Kilfoil
buck and the Mundy buck in our "Behind the Pictures" section of the magazine.
Both of these bucks are 47 1/2" and 49 2/8" wide respectively. This is only the
beginning of what we have uncovered.
I had a guy call me the day before I
wrote this, telling me he never knew mule deer could get so big. He just loved it and
enjoyed reading the stories behind them. I have had more calls about people wanting to get
their own buck re-created since the magazine came out than ever before. For those of you
who think these images are fake, then go talk to the guy who killed that 48" buck and
tell him his buck is not real. As long as we have people who don't like what we do and how
we do it, I will know we must be doing something right.
Is our magazine going to be full of
re-created images? No, not at all, that's what our calendars are for. But we will feature
some in our "Behind the Pictures" section, and possibly in another article if it
pertains to that image. Just look at the photo credit if you are not sure. Thanks to many
of you and your shared interest, I have seen pictures of two more bucks that are 48"
wide. Will it ever lead to anything? I don't know, but you will see it here first. We are
just trying to make the best hunting magazine that we can. I know we will step on some
toes in the process, as we did with our "What Happened to all the Mule Deer"
cover story, but I think you are going to like it. And by the way, if you have a 48"
mule deer hanging on your wall, give me a call. I would love to talk with you. |
